the undercurrent of disdain for China feels a little scummy.
The people in China are happy with the way it’s governed.
We, presumably endowed with superior imagination, perception and intelligence, are not happy with the way China is governing itself .. therefore the way China is run in a way that deserves to be sneered at.

Agreed. China’s government is entirely the business of Chinese citizens, nothing to do with the US or anywhere else.

The politicians and civil service in The European Union Fourth Reich are probably worse than the USA cohort.

I can understand your point, but I don’t know if “the people of China are happy with the way it’s governed.” I’d say the estimated 600 million FORCED abortions committed since implementation of China’s one-child policy might have caused a little bit of disdain… But it is so totalitarian and surveillance is so thorough that it’s almost impossible for anyone to object to them.

Having an extra child meant the family having to pay up front for the cost of social security and education that many people could not afford, resulting in many children growing up with no education, medical coverage and no national ID…. an incentive to abort the child before incuring such costs. Xi Jing Ping reversed the policy, integrating those millions who were off the grid, so to speak, granting them social security and a national ID. BTW, the 300 million non-Han minorities were never subjected to the one child policy; that… Read more »

Sorry, but you’ve entered hystrionics territory. Standard US playbook now as a precusor to war is to vilify their opponent. Chomski calls it ‘manufacturing consent for war’ and you’re biting on the bait; China is the new villain du jour, after Russia, and before that Qadaffi, and before that Milosevic etc etc etc. Biden makes an investment deal with a Chinese bank, skims a few millions off the top and it’s somehow Xi and the whole Chinese government’s fault, and somehow an evil scheme to make the US a communist state. Nonsense! China wants to sell its goods by promoting… Read more »
