With respect to Andrew, the person I feel most sympathy for is the queen. On her 21st birthday in 1947, she said “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service”. She is now 94 years old and still carrying out her duties. She has endured the divorce of Charles and Diana, the scandalous behaviour of Charles and Camilla, the various escapades of Randy Andy and Fergie, the fire in her favourite castle, the recent departure from the family of Harry and Meghan with her youngest grandson, and… Read more »

You need to read the book ‘And What do you Do?’ by Norman Baker to get a better idea of the criminality of the royal family. They have leeched off the British public for long enough and as the queen has disappeared from view I would suggest that the vast sums she draws from the Civil List should be stopped as fast as possible. She’s nothing but a sponger whilst being one of the most wealthy people in the world. Time to stop this outdated charade and use some of her ill-gotten gains to help those thousands of people living… Read more »

The majority of the British public do not support your view. In a fairly recent poll, 68% viewed the monarchy as a good thing for Britain. It found that 17% were neutral, whilst only 9% said that it was bad for the country. The queen currently has 74 percent of public support. It is true that the cost of the British royal family is significantly higher than other royal families, but it is also true that it brings in far, far in excess of that amount. The royals, in fact, brought in £430 million more than they cost last year. In 2018, the cost to… Read more »

£430 million? From what? Tourist peep shows? Put them in a glass cage then, like Lenin or an Amsterdam cat house – along with a coin drop.

Royal family events, tours of castles, palaces and gardens, fees to see the crown jewels and art collections, postcards, books, films, articles in magazines and newspapers, Trooping the Colour, changing of the guard, souvenirs, clothing (copies of outfits and jewelry worn by members of royal family), pottery, etc., and all the people employed in the above and also in the hotel, restaurant, pub, travel, and entertainment businesses supported by the tourism that the royal family attracts.

It is not just £450 million but £450 million MORE than they cost. So, whatever they cost PLUS £450 million.

That should be £430 million.

The latest Sovereign Grant accounts show that the monarchy cost £67 million (USD $86 million) in 2018-19. However, it was also shown that the Royal family brought in £1.8 billion to the British economy. I hardly think that £1.8 billion can be generated by tourist peep shows.

£430 million is nothing compared to the amount they hoover up from the poor benighted taxpayer! And if you believe in polls, you probably believe in Father Christmas too.
