Suggesting that the Russians may want to avoid total victory over Ukraine because this would cause greater tension with European countries is not likely to dissuade Russia from its objectives that include removing the threats from NATO. That will necessitate securing the Black Sea port of Odessa and removing all Western military forces from Ukraine’s territory (demilitarization) which cannot be achieved long term through negotiations. Re that example of perfidy in UN voting, it’s very much worth thinking about that in the context of a world split into 4 or 5 spheres of influence, which some are beginning to suspect maybe Trump, Xi, Putin, and maybe Erdogan’s intention, versus global governance under the UN. This idea also puts the discussion about Canada, Greenland, and Panama into a new light.
