Anti-corruption campaigner Alexey Navalny was poisoned, according to doctors at Charite clinic in Berlin. Tests have shown that the protest leader was found with a cholinesterase inhibitor inside his system.

While the exact substance remains unknown, the presence of a cholinesterase inhibitor means long-term effects are possible, particularly to the nervous system, according to a statement from the hospital.

Navalny is in intensive care, where he remains in a medically induced coma. His condition is not currently life threatening.

Cholinesterase inhibitors are chemicals used in drugs for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, but are also found in pesticides and nerve agents.

On Thursday, Navalny was taken to the hospital in Omsk after falling ill on a flight between Tomsk and Moscow. After the plane was forced to make an emergency landing, he was taken to a toxicology intensive care unit, where local doctors called his condition “serious.”

His associates and his wife claimed he had been poisoned and asked that he be transferred to Germany. They eventually appealed directly to the Kremlin, after the medical team treating him in Omsk said a flight risked worsening his health. He was eventually moved to Berlin on Saturday.

Cholinesterase inhibitor overdose symptoms do not coincide with the symptoms Navalny experienced as described by the people who traveled with him. If he is taking Metformin, which many type 2 diabetics take, lactic acidosis is a known possible side effect. It can come on suddenly and matches the symptoms Navalny experienced. It can get to a serious level rather quickly. Add alcohol to the mix, apparently alcohol was found in his system according to some reports, and you have a potent recipe for trouble. That his team claims that he was the perfect picture of health before this happened is… Read more »

Oh, and btw, Navalny shut down his anti corruption organisation in June or July, not just his website, but the whole organization, in order to avoid paying libel/slander fines that were awarded to other parties he had maligned in the past. In other words they took him to court and he lost. He wants to restart with a new org, trying to avoid paying. So much for anti-corruption.

Cui bono? The first question to be asked in any competent investigation. Certainly not President Putin, who has no reason to make a martyr of a minor political figure. A different story might be told for those seeking to harm the already strained relations between the US and Russia at a time when dialogue, such as that proposed by Putin for an October meeting of the UNSC P-5, is so sorely needed.

Navalny is not important enough for Russia to poison given the predictable political repercussions.

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2020/08/the-back-and-forth-about-navalnys-poisoning-.html A couple of comments from the comment section: “If the Russians are really trying to assassinate (him), why do it in so theatrical a manner? Just shoot him twice in the back of the head and call it suicide like the Americans do.” As ‘western’ media continue with their “Putin poisoned Navalny” nonsense it is important to again point out that other people have more reason to harm Navalny than the Kremlin does: During the last years Navalny has made some enemies by uncovering corruption cases. His latest one was about the local governor of Tomsk. It was also the reason… Read more »

Did the German doctors actually FIND a cholinesterase inhibitor in Navalny’s system?

  • In which case, why would they be unable to identify the chemical nature of such an inhibitor, given the prestige and resources of this particular institution?
  • Why were Russian doctors unable to find such inhibitors, despite specifically testing for them?

Or is it the case the German doctors simply found low levels of cholesterinase in Navalny’s system? In which case, there can be numerous reasons which need further exploration (high doses of caffeine can lower acetylcholinesterase levels) before any accusations should be levelled about poisoning with cholinesterase inhibitors.

PS: Having just checked the ACTUAL press release from the German hospital again, the wording is very careful: The effect of the poison – namely, the inhibition of cholinesterase in the body – was confirmed by multiple tests in independent laboratories. Note the bold words (my emphasis). It was the effects of an inhibitor,ie. low cholinesterase levels, that was observed by the various laboratories. There is no claim in their statement that any cholinesterase inhibitor was found, leading to the statement: Clinical findings indicate poisoning with a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors. Again, clinical findings are those simply obtained… Read more »

What is most interesting is that  Navalny is described by the west as the Opposition leader when in fact he is an insignificant figure who has been shunned by various political groups. I think that Merkel should just shut up and say nothing. Its very tiresome having these so called poisonings by the Kremlin proven to be fakes much like the  Skipals.

Navalny has outlived his usefulness. At this point, he knows too much.
He probably wasn’t supposed to survive. He’s possibly safer in Germany because they want that gas. So is Merkel just playing her part?

I recall reading that there was a serious insurrection in an area of the Russian Far East. Navalny was coming from there and he might have been involved in some way. If he was, he would have been questioned once he reached Moscow and that would have frightened whoever he was working with. Navalny also tried to convince voters to vote against the new Constitution. He failed in both, so he might have become more of a liability than an asset. Incapacitating him would have been to their benefit.

I did a bit more digging. Let’s just say traces of a cholinesterase inhibitor were found. It is prescribed as drugs for alzheimers, dementia, parkinsons and ADHD. Early onset Parkinsons and Alzheimers affects people as early as 20 and 30 respectively. If that were the case, Navalny would of course have kept that from the public. Though adult ADHD could be a potential fit. Too speculative. Huperzine, a nootropic, is one of the natural cholinesterase inhibitors known. Can be purchased on iHerb and is used to boost cognitive performance and also to treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which basically every… Read more »

Every time Pompeo calls a European leader, the connection is prefaced by: ‘this call is being recorded in order to provide your country with the very best humanitarian assistance America has to offer, and if you refuse for whatever unfathomable reason, can and will be edited and used for blackmail purposes. By receiving this call, you have agreed to these terms of use. Choose 1 to proceed with the connection and 2 to proceed with the connection, or else choose 0 to speak with an operative that will proceed to connect you. Thank you and have a nice day.’
