Great episode as usual Alexander. . I was looking for some kind of confirmation that the Soviet Union had been promised that NATO would not expand east. I found a package of 32 documents showing so there is no doubt that it was done. It was not only Baker who promised this, but also other heads of state or prime ministers. There are also papers from senior diaries and readouts from conversations between Western leaders. There is no doubt that this promise was made, repeatedly. Russia is making all the right moves against NATO, and the U.S. After all, since the end of ww 2 NATO has been moving its military ever closer to Russia’s border. If the equivalent were to be pursued by Russia against the U.S., Russia could be in Mexico, Cuba, Haiti and perhaps a number of central american countries. The U.S. would not tolerate it. So, Russia has the right to not tolerate U.S., militaries near Russia’s borders.
