No immediate interest from Washington since it can’t easily parlay it into a NATO expansion but it’s probably whispering into Turkey’s ear.
“Turkey has transferred ‘Syrian rebel’ units to join the fighting on Azerbaijan’s side.”
Boy, they’re in for a surprise when they discover Azeris are 90% Shi’a. I wonder what stance Georgia will take, as it supposedly has an Orthodox affinity with Armenia.
We ordered Georgia to stay out of it and mind their own business. We don’t like other nations to interfere where we might consider interfering.
WW – I am quite certain that Turkey and Erdogan are well aware that Azeris are 90% Shia. It might have more to do with the history between Turkey and Armenia than it has with religion.
We back Turkey’s efforts in support of Azerbaijani’s Sunni minority’s territorial integrity. Our hopes are that Erdogan will facilitate the rise of an Azeri Saddam Hussein and install a Sunni government lording it over the Shi’a majority and with whom we can cooperate for years to come. We’ve even promised to lift sanctions on Turkey and finally honor the F-35 contract that we never really sort of withdrew from anyway, if they can pull it off.
Georgia isn’t really in shape to be intervening in anything, on either side.
Need more info on Kurdish fighters going to assist Armenia.
I haven’t seen anything credible to that effect. But if it’s true, the Kurds are on the right side.
We need the eastern blocks to form bonds of strength, fracturing will only bring misery to all
I always get a kick from reading the Harvard PhDs at the Atlantic Council when they’re on the ‘Beware Russia the hungry bear’ bandwagon. (which is always) This one argues that Russia will join the fray and grab the Ganja Gap from Azerbaijan for more of its gas exports. Reminds me of the Russia’s ready to grab the DNR to Crimea corridor. These guys live to beat war drums with logic or common sense never a deterrent.
Prof. Michael Tanchum
@michaeltanchum
Watch this corridor (“Ganja Gap” on map) Controlling this can connect Russia to Nagorno-Karabakh Cut AZ-GE-TR connectivity (pipelines, etc)
The problem with that lot is that they assume Russia is plotting as they plot. They just look in the mirror in the morning and ask themselves ‘What would I do?’.
Cutting gas pipelines of competitors is America’s forte, not Russia’s Mr. Tanchum.
