Well the UK ‘government’ will not do anything other than what it is told do by the US. But this is frankly beyond embarrassing. As a Brit I am frankly ashamed to how low the UK establishment will descend in their attempts to please their transatlantic masters. I’m speechles! The haughty spirit of the British elites has always been – and it hasn’t grown weaker of late, at all – casting a condescending and envious eye – by turns – on Russia for centuries. genuinely interesting stuff. But even imperial Britain had to justify its wars. How could you justify attacking Alaska to defend Turkey? And suppose the boot had been on the other foot and Russia had attacked Canada just as they defended the US West coast during the US Civil War.
Britain had a long history of using its navy first and its army last. This was a carefully thought out strategy of only using the army when there was a reasonable chance of success. Thus, though Britain had been at war with France since 1793, they did not put an army in the field until 1808. Even here they were cautious. Ukraine started this mess by ignoring the Minsk Accord and we don’t need a full-scale war over this when it can be resolved diplomatically. From what I’ve gathered about attempts at negotiation with the axis powers of WWII, negotiating with Ukrofascists is pure folly.
