I’ve noticed that every strategy devised ‘for the good of us all’ always results in more inconvenience and expense for ordinary people, and more money for the mega corporations. They got rid of plastic bags at supermarket checkouts – a good thing, but rather than introduce free paper bags, like they used to have in the 1930s, made from easily recyclable wood from renewable trees, they just gave customers a simple choice: either balance your purchased groceries in your arms, or buy yet another ‘bag for life’, which is far less recyclable, doesn’t last and loads… Read more »
I agree with you in general, but I have always brought my own shopping bag for my groceries, which was a small one-time expense for me, but these bags last for years, and the result is that costs the supermarket nothing, keeps plastics from destroying the environment, and preserves trees. The cost of having to purchase one-time use bags for customers is passed on by the supermarket to the customers via higher prices for goods. “Free paper bags” aren’t really free, it just seems that way.
