Is Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel next on the Silicon Valley take down list?

It seems that every other week a new technology Founder / CEO’s reputation is being dragged through the mud.  Actually, strike that, it seems that every other week a new male technology Founder / CEO’s reputation is being dragged through the mud.

Hunting down evil male tech leaders is picking up speed…

• In 2010 we had the infamous Zuckerberg “Dumb fucks” IM chats.
• In 2012, big VC firms Kleiner Perkins was charged with a sexual discrimination lawsuit.
• In April of this year, Mozilla Firefox CEO Brendan Eich was forced to step down after making a $1,000 donation in 2008 to an anti-gay marriage proposition.
• And just last month, the founder of the popular coding service Github, was accused of sexism and intimidation by a former female employee.

This brings us to the newest victim, Snapchat Founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, who is getting hammered by the MSM and Silicon Valley hipsters after his college frat emails were made public by Valleywag.

Techcrunch wasted no time being judge and jury, punishing the CEO for his freshman frat indiscretions:

Like Zuckerberg with his infamous IM leak, Spiegel was in college when he sent these emails, which describe peeing on women, doing blow, drinking underage, getting his friends laid by wasted “sororisluts”, and shooting lasers at “fat chicks.” The emails are disturbing, in content as well as spelling and grammar, and wear away what little hope is left for the younger generation.

Valleywag broke the “news” on Spiegel’s young party life saying…

During his time at Stanford, Spiegel (now 23 years old) was a prominent brother of the university’s Kappa Sigma chapter—a fraternity with a fraught record, temporarily kicked off campus for violating the school’s “Controlled Substances and Alcohol Policy.” The house was also a tiny tech incubator, and brought together the three boys whose fratty bond would eventually lead to the creation of Snapchat (after one was betrayed and screwed out of the deal, of course). Emails obtained by Valleywag show a slightly younger Spiegel shifting seamlessly from entrepreneur to a guy trying very hard to get girls so drunk, they might have sex with his friends. Who needs Y Combinator when you’ve got a stripper pole, your dad’s swanky house in L.A., and some cocaine?

Looking over the emails you can surely conclude that Evan did, said, (and unfortunately for him) wrote some dumb stuff in those emails, but for fuck’s sake, the guy was a college Freshman in a Frat. Basically he is talking about girls, booze and drugs.

I am sure everyone is guilty of saying and doing some dumb shit in their teens (including all the women and white knights out for blood), but the real problem with this whole story has to do with having your private, past email conversations published and aired all over the net, condemning you to being labeled a misogynist asshole for life. Only sleaze ball bloggers pull shit like that. People love to feel morally superior and knocking down a guy like Evan was just too good to be true.

I don’t know if this guy is cool, arrogant, an asshole or what not. What I do know is that at 23 he built a pretty big product used by hundreds of millions of people, and that takes work, guts and dedication.

Yes he slipped up in the past and now we can all pass judgement on him and call him creepy and disgusting…but man would I love to get my hands on some early, college party emails and IMs of the people doing the hunting for just once.
