In the final on Saturday, Russia’s women’s chess team has won the FIDE World Championship team.
The Russian team consisted of Kosteniuk, Ekaterina Lagno, Valentina Gunina, Alexandra Goryachkina, and Olga Gira.
They traveled to Khanty-Mansiysk region in Russia to compete in the championship.
The Russian team needed a draw to secure victory against the Ukrainians. The title-deciding points were won by grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk.
Ironically, the deciding game was won by a Russian from a Ukrainian family playing against a Ukrainian from a Russian family.
