The Ukrainians desperately needed a victory and Snake Island was their best chance. Therefore they can proclaim that the comeback has begun.
Either the Russians are totally utter & complete imbeciles OR my crazy pet theory that says that Russia is in cahoots with the West in order to help usher-in the WEF’s “Great Reset” wasn’t actually so crazy a theory after all.
“Russian military leaves Snake Island” At this point in time, the most incredibly stupid move that Russia could ever have made, bar none. I fear Paul Craig Roberts may be right: the Russians must indeed be complete imbeciles after all. This is because goodwill gestures such as this are never perceived by Western Governments as such, but are rather instead mistakenly interpreted as being signs of weakness. Perceived weaknesses, I might add, that invariably only serve to incite yet further aggressions ad nauseam. Allow me to be blunt here for a moment: we are inevitably headed towards nuclear war. And I for one think such a war… Read more »
Has everyone forgotten that the Black Sea in that area has been mined by Ukraine? I seem to recall that not long ago Russia and Turkey offered to work with Ukraine to de-mine it so that the ships carrying grain could leave. Ukraine declined the offer. Russia also suggested that it would be more efficient to ship the grain by rail via Belarus. Even with Russia abandoning Snakes Island, the sea is still mined. Russia should probably have reminded everyone of this and said that they were leaving the island so that Ukraine could de-mine the sea all by itself.… Read more »
Leaving Snake Island can be claimed by Elensky as a victory, thus potentially extending the war at a time when a collapse might be in sight. Russia doesn’t want a Ukrainian collapse just yet, they want Odessa and so must keep the conflict going. “Peace” now will lead to stalemate, but Russia wants a long term solution. They can take back the island whenever they want.
They have already said that although they have left they will not allow the Ukrainians to occupy the island. They say the considerable resources involved in defending it can be better used elsewhere.
I would imagine NATO was plotting with Kiev to really hit the island hard. Russia would know this. Now if Kiev occupies it, they become the target.
Yes – I think you are right, it was being used as a distraction and a way of checking out Kiev and NATO electronics.
OK it will be seen as an admission etc etc, so what? It IS true that Elensky was saying the island was blocking grain shipments. He can’t say that now.
It may also have been a gesture to Rumania, which is very close.
Ukraine has 150 PR agents worldwide, apparently. I think the Russian military have only contempt for all this PR.
In WW2 it took the UK two years or so to get their communications right. Ministers had to be changed etc etc.
The other point is that once you go down the road of total communication there is no going back.
Yes, maybe Russia is wise not to cultivate the weasel words and manipulation of the public mind that the west does. Because, as we see with the west, the lie-makers start to believe that if they think it, want it, say it, spin it cleverly, that reality will follow. And that is a big lie. That is all that the west is left with now — the Empire of Lies.
This will be seen as a big propaganda scoop for the west, meaning that the west will take some consolation from this move and they will take it as a reason to send more weapons, sighting this move as a point win for the Ukrainian military. Surely Russia should have had a better way of abandoning this rock in the Black Sea.
Alex is right this is a PR disaster for Russia, this is a gift for the west and they will play and play it forever.OWN GOAL!!!
Russia could have said the rock was full of anthrax, better to leave it.
By the time this “Military Operation” is over with, Snake Island may be all that is left of “The Ukraine.”
Regardless of the visuals there is no tactical reason to occupy Snake Island. Snake Island, and its approaches are fully interdicted by air, and artillery rendering an occupation a waste of time, personnel, and material.
