There is something more to this than “The Israelis don’t want to tangle with Russia” and “The Russians don’t want Israel to attack Iran” Russian/Syrian joint patrols near the Golan are no deterrent (militarily or as a message) to an Israeli attack on Iran. They are not even a complete deterrent to Israeli attacks on Damascus! About a week after Joint Patrols started they resumed such strikes. If Russia wanted to send a message re. Iran it could stop talking about it and deliver S-400 systems to Tehran, which it has been legally free to do, for a while now.… Read more »
You are making an interesting point. Yes, I agree that something constitutes a balancing act. I have a lot of respect for the intelligence and the wisdom of President Putin. He is being poked from all sides to do something – whatever, to give the US a pretext, any pretext, to start war against Russia, which means WWIII because China and a number of nations forming the eastern alliance have already indicated that they will support Russia. About time Russia stood it’s ground in support of the Syrian government which is why they are in Syria for.To help the Syrian government and it’s people .
Hopefully the Israelis will be paying attention to the message .
