Russia Goes For Global Gas Dominance | OilPrice.com

Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Friday that Gazprom would launch Nord Stream 2 by the end of 2020 as the country moves forward to gain control of global gas markets.

Despite the newly announced U.S. sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 project, Russia says it will build and launch next year the natural gas pipeline that has divided Europe for half a decade.

With Nord Stream 2, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will have several major natural gas projects completed in the past few years, Bloomberg Opinion’s Europe columnist Leonid Bershidsky writes.

These projects will complete Putin’s plan to have Moscow not only continue holding a large share of gas supplies to Europe, but branch out Russian gas exports to the fastest growing gas import market, China, and seize a growing share of the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.

Nord Stream 2 is the latest project in Putin’s plan for energy and geopolitical dominance in the world. Russia already holds a third of Europe’s gas imports. Nord Stream 2, when completed—because Russia believes it will be completed next year despite the sanctions—is set to further solidify Moscow’s reach into the north European market bypassing Ukraine.

Before Nord Stream 2, Russia will have launched TurkStream, through which Russia’s gas giant Gazprom will carry pipeline gas to Turkey and south and southeastern Europe—a region already heavily dependent on Russian gas supplies. Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are set to officially launch the TurkStream gas pipeline on January 8.

Oooh, Russia’s off to geopolitically dominate the world, says the author! LMAO. Trump & Cruz are sharp cookies though, forcing sanctions to keep from Europe buying too much rugas through NS2 and TS and keep sending it through Ukraine instead. Now Europe will suffer from Russian gas through Ukraine, through Belarus/Poland, AND through NS2 and Turkstream, oh and lots of cheaper than US LNG too, to those nifty new LNG terminals all over Europe that Trump strong armed and just dying to import US gas at any price. Art of the Deal indeed. One of Bush Jr’s portrait masterpieces comes… Read more »

Russia is not displacing gas suppliers with Turkstream and NS2 but is merely diverting current supplies around Ukraine. The Oilprice article attempts to gloss over this. Russian gas supplies to China are partially meeting a huge increase in demand since the Chinese decision to use cleaner fuels and again are not displacing any other suppliers. In fact Russian supplies are helping to keep gas prices down for consumers in both China and Europe.

What the USA doing is to control subdue or destabilize destroy countries with energy based economies and with their economic/financial-Terrorism to starve/strangle whole countries to death/submission – ‘Full Spectrum Dominance’. “Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people.” [Henry Kissinger]

It’s just another of those US strategic moves, like invading Iraq for the Shi’a to dominate, make friends with Iran and hamstring the US into cutting the new gordian knot it tied itself up with using a blunt butter knife.

Instead of stemming Russian gas routes into Europe, it’s ending up doubling them. Makes you wonder if Biden somehow managed to work a deal to skim the take.

After Suleimani though, we can be sure of one Washington consistency. Make ISIS Great Again.

They evacuated parts of their ISIS Terrorist/Proxy/Mercs from Syria + Iraq for a while and shuttled them to Afghanistan – they appeared there not out of thin air – regrouped and rearmed them, to let them fight the Taliban, produce problems for neighboring Iran and destabilize Central Asia to destabilize + cause problems in the region to sabotage Chinas BRI. For the same reasons, the CIA has redirected parts of the drug trade + traffic to the same targets for years.
