Alexander Mercouris believes that The US will deploy the Patriot Missile system in Ukraine, as he said that “I expects to see them deployed, before very long”. The Raytheon produced Patriot Missile system, has never functioned properly in the heat of battle, and has failed every single time it has been deployed. On February 26th 1991, Saddam Hussein fired relatively slow moving soviet built Scud Missiles at an American Barracks in Saudi Arabia housing more than 100 Troops, killing at least 27 and wounding 98. The American base was ‘Protected’ by the Patriot missile system, which failed to intercept a… Read more »
There is a newer version of patriot missile, the PAC-3, which seems to have improved abilities. These missiles cost more than $4 million each so they would be reserved for high value defense. Only 1 battery is being sent to Ukraine which probably has a few older PAC-2 missiles and a few newer PAC-3s, so only one relatively small area can be defended. How well the patriot missiles do against whatever limited targets are selected will be closely watched and as you rightly point out might be very bad for future business. Being successful against $50,000 drones will only be… Read more »
NATO is certainly spooked by the latest Russian Kinzhal Hypersonic Missile strikes in Ukraine. The Kh-47M2 Kinzhal Hypersonic Missile is an extreme piece of engineering, as it travels at Mach 12, which is about 2 ½ Miles per second or just over 4 kilometre per second. The kinetic energy alone at this speed is equivalent to 4 metric tons of TNT (excluding detonation of its warhead). This is the reason why the Kinzhal has been called a “carrier killer”, as it can sink any Aircraft Carrier with a single strike, and it can not be intercepted, or even tracked by… Read more »
