Half of respondents supported Vladimir Putin during the survey, as poll revealed.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again topped the list of most trusted Russian politicians, as half of respondents supported him during the survey, the new poll of the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) said Thursday.

According to the survey obtained by Sputnik, 50.1 percent of respondents said answering an open-ended question that they trust Putin more than other politicians, while Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev finished second and third with 16.7 and 15.5 percent respectively.

The survey added that 1.8 percent of respondents distrust Putin, while the most distrusted politician of the country was the leader of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky, according to 26.6 percent of respondents.

The survey was conducted on August 28 – September 3. Its results are based on average figures of polling of 600 adults on a daily basis that’s why it is based on answers of 4,200 respondents. Putin was also named the most trusted person by some 50 percent of respondents in the similar weekly polls carried out during August.

The Russian presidential election is scheduled to take place in March 2018. The Kremlin has not provided any comment yet on whether Putin would run for another term. The latest polls of Russia’s Public Opinion Foundation research agency showed that 65 percent of Russian citizens would vote for the incumbent president if he ran.

Several other politicians have already declared their ambitions to run for the presidency. In February 2016, the Yabloko party decided to nominate Grigory Yavlinsky as the party’s presidential candidate. In February 2017, Zhirinovsky said that he would most likely present his candidature for the Russian presidential election.
