Alex, I respectfully disagree on what attempts at a rapprochement between Assad and Erdogan could have meant for the current territorial integrity of Syria. Turkey has always planned to annex Syrian territory. In 1939, before Erdogan and Assad were even born, Turkey annexed Hatay province. A rapprochement, hinted at by Erdogan, would merely have been yet another ploy to lead Assad down the primrose path, in the same way that he has done with Putin.
