France’s former first lady is spilling the beans about her roller coaster relationship with President Francois Hollande.
In a kiss-and-tell memoir, written in a veil of secrecy and printed in Germany to avoid any leaks, Valerie Trierweiler writes about the highs and lows of her time with the very unpopular French President.
Hollande’s popularity is at historic lows and will most likely drop further after the embarrassing details of the new book are released.
In a preview of what is about to crush Hollande, magazine Paris-Match and daily Le Monde published excerpts from Trierweiler book describing the break-up in the presidential bedroom when news hit in January of Hollande’s affair with actress Julie Gayet. Yahoo News reports:
“I crack up. I don’t want to hear that, I rush into the bathroom. I grab the little plastic bag with the sleeping pills,” she recounts in an episode run in the weekly magazine.
“Francois follows me. He tries to snatch the bag… The pills spill over the bed and on the ground… I swallow what I can. I want to sleep. I don’t want to live through the coming hours… I lost consciousness.”
The 49 year old Trierweiler, hooked up with Hollande in 2005 while he was in a relationship with Segolene Royal, a former presidential candidate.
Hollande left Royal, the mother of his four children, for Trierweiler, a journalist, who then became the de facto first lady of France after Hollande was elected in 2012. The pair was never married.
Hollande is proving to be an extremely incompetent European leader (not an easy task), and an embarrassment to France. He is a beta bucks male with the good fortune to be placed in a position that requires alpha male strength. Hollande is a true wimp at heart, never fully equipped to handle such a position of power. Trierweiler writes…
He presented himself as the man who does not like the rich,” Trierweiler is quoted as saying in Le Monde.
“In reality, the president does not like the poor,” she writes, pointing out that he jokingly calls them “the toothless” in private.
Trierweiler says that at the beginning, “it was electric between us when we were together”.
But Hollande changed, becoming “de-humanised” as he got closer to the reins of power, Trierweiler was quoted as saying by Paris-Match.
She became increasingly frustrated with the cabal surrounding Hollande as he campaigned for the keys to the Elysee Palace.
News of Hollande’s affair with 42-year-old french actress Julie Gayet caused shockwaves in France in January, and Trierweiler was hospitalised for a week after Closer published pictures of Hollande arriving for secret trysts with the actress at a borrowed flat. Hollande later announced his relationship with Trierweiler was over in an 18-word statement.
In true blue pill form, Paris-Match is now reporting that Hollande is trying to win Trierweiler back…
He [Hollande] bombarded her [Trierweiler] with text messages, “up to 29 in one day”, even finding time between a meeting with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin to send her “passionate messages.”
“He tells me he is going to win me back as if I was an election,” Paris-Match quoted her as saying.
Trierweiler’s soon to be released memoir is the best-selling book on Amazon France, shooting to the website’s number one spot in just one day and overtaking the hugely popular erotic novel “Fifty Shades Of Grey.”
