IZMIR (Sputnik) – Russia will draft documents by September 13 to lift restrictions on the supply of agricultural products from Turkey, except for tomatoes, Russian Energy Minister, co-chairman of the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation Alexander Novak told journalists Friday.
“We are aiming to remove restrictions. We still have some positions, in particular, tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce and a number of other items… We agreed that on September 13 the working group will be held on agriculture within the framework of the intergovernmental commission, and by that date the necessary documents will already be developed to remove restrictions on all remaining types of agricultural products,”
Novak said.
“Regarding tomatoes, proposals will be prepared separately in accordance with the joint statement on trade liberalization, but specific parameters will be worked out between our agriculture ministries with account for the seasonal factor,”
he said on the sidelines of the 86th Izmir International Fair.

Interesting about tomatoes… just wondered when I read the headline the other day, whether Turkey’s tomato seeds are GMO? That Turkey acquired the seeds from a GMO supplier? No wonder Turkish tomatoes are a no go for Russia then.
