In my opinion, you both answered your own question yourself. Why does Russia persist in the Peace talks? It is precisely in order to lead Pres. Zelenskiy to his current meltdown. Personally, I remain convinced that Zelenskiy is haunted by Istanbul 2022, because he was pressured, or even threatened by NATO into not signing the obvious Peace deal. This would explain his dislike of Mr. Medinskiy, and I feel certain that Medinskiy invoked the 2022 agreements to Umerov & Arakhamia, since they know perfectly well where the sabotage between the two countries came from.
