Military organizations, such as NATO, do not seek to preserve world peace and stability. They exist to acquire power and exert force. After the Cold War justification for NATO ended, the US and NATO needed new enemies. They had two strong motivators: the west’s arms industries and armed forces, especially those of the US Empire. The amount of money involved is in the trillions and not only for weaponry but for salaries and all the personal benefits of inflated importance.
