I am not sure I agree with Alexander on a lot about the Viet Nam war. The casualties alone might not have tipped the balance as opposed to the economic cost (which bankrupted the US and from which it has never recovered)…but the public opposition to the draft….the peace movements (completely absent these days)… were very powerful. The lyrics of this song, which I remember well as a youngster, show that NOTHING has changed in over fifty years… Well, come on all of you, big strong men, Uncle Sam needs your help again. My dad told me, long before I turned 18 and the war was still ongoing, that he’d pack me up and send me to Canada if it was still going on. And that’s coming from a WW2 vet and nearly twenty year veteran at that.

Our Empire IUSA, it should not have nukes or a military able to overpower Russia and China, but it does. All because our Empire desires to enslave and plunder others.

Alexander, it was often mentioned during the 60’s that Vietnam had (and still has) extensive off-shore oil reserves. Exxon wanted to explore deposits, insiders were paid, and leases were being discussed. North Vietnam didn’t want to give away the oil to the majors. An old NY Times article (Apr 27,1975) said,”Exploration activities by companies such as Exxon, Mobil Oil Corporation, Shell Oil Company, Sun Oil Company, Cities Service Company and Marathon Oil Company began in July, 1973, when the Saigon Government awarded its first leases.

I have a few times previously brought up the fact that huge reserves of fossil fuels lie under Donbas and along the Ukrainian side of the Polish border.

Having fought in the Vietnam War and been subjected to all the brainwashed that followed, funny how wars all seem to go down the same rabbit hole.

Mel Gibson yesterday apologized for his “despicable” remarks after a Los Angeles police officer claimed that the actor had shouted a barrage of anti-semitic abuse, including a claim that “the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world”. Gibson, 50, was arrested in the early hours of Friday after he was found driving his Lexus along the Pacific coast highway while allegedly drunk. A three-quarters-full bottle of tequila wrapped in a brown paper bag was found on the floor. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and released on $5,000 bail.- this is… Read more »
