The so-called Glorious Revolution of 1688, which brought the Dutch William on the British throne, was the first colour revolution, and the prototype for the colour revolutions we are now familiar with.
There was hardly any fighting on William’s campaign from Torbay to London. Instead, 60,000 pamphlets were printed in the Netherlands to hand out to the British, along with oranges (orange being the colour of the Dutch monarchy) for those who couldn’t read. Contacts were made in advance with sympathetic (anti-Catholic) British printers and William even brought portable printing presses to print more pamphlets once they arrived.
