It sounds to me like Russia finally concluded they were being subjected to a good cop – bad cop negotiation approach, so they rolled out an even badder cop – Medvedev.
They’re all about teamwork.
When Alex was in Russia a few months ago, his opinion seemed to be the same – no poverty, no beggars, no homeless, no litter, no graffiti. Sounds like paradise to me, as in Geneva we have all these horrors.
It is no surprise that US politicians (many of whom have spent decades being re-elected session after session) are completely unaware of what’s really going on in the rest of the world, because from the friends I used to have there, who have spent time in Europe, they are all under the same delusion. However, the fact that the rest of the West is equally deluded is astonishing. All the better for Russia – much easier to deal with bigoted idiots than people who know something of the subject they’re discussing.
