The Americans have not done diplomacy for decades, partly because they have no diplomats, partly because they always have to be the Boss. They give orders and issue threats; or they attack with maximum force and kill – literally – millions of people. The USA as a nation has never engaged in diplomacy since its foundation. As always there have been exceptions to the rule – Jefferson and most of the founding fathers knew the value of diplomacy and practised it skilfully. The neocons in the USA started this whole business, so by saying the US should walk away is par for the course; they always walk away when they’ve caused mayhem, leaving the poor, battered population to do the best they can to survive. The right thing would be to call out the neocons, the reasons for the regime change policy in 2014 and to give them a taste of their own medicine and see what the US can do to restore peace and repair the damage they’ve caused.
