Mr Trump is (or certainly should be) suffering from “Boy who cried wolf” syndrome.
Since the USA can’t be trusted, Iran has only one option: to prosecute the war until the USA is physically unable to launch another such attack. It seems to me that requires two goals: shut down all US bases in the region and make sure the Americans leave them; and crush Israel permanently.
I disagree with Mr Mercouris. A rapid perusal of the Iranian Constitution should make it clear that it is resolved not to permit any foreign military establishment on its soil. Iran does not want to become a mirror image of the Gulf States, becoming a puppet of Russia and China rather than of the USA. It wishes to stay independent.
For Iran to be independent instead of allied with Russia and China against U.S. and Israel, would be stupid after Iran has been invaded twice by the U.S. and Israel during the past year. I doubt that the leaders of Iran are that stupid.

I completely agree that Mr Hegseth is an appalling person. For that exact reason, I see him as a potential future President.
