With all due respect to the professor, one cannot ignore the political realities that include NATO aggression, centuries-old anti-Russian hatred, US neocon agenda, and the Nazi history of Ukraine. “Identity” is probably the least of Ukraine’s issues.

Russia did not ‘invade’ but rather it ‘retaliated’ against the invasion of Ukraine by the US which built up military forces to prepare for a Ukrainian invasion of the Donbass that also threatened Russia through NATO’s further encroachment. Not only was the Ukrainian junta loathe to respect the human rights of Russian-speaking people in the Donbass, but Western elites and leaders denied Russia’s right to security guarantees. They created the conflict intentionally to disintegrate Russia.
