As the Christian Passion Week is followed by the Resurrection and Easter, the same is true geopolitically for Palestine, Easter, i.e. the transition from Israeli occupation to freedom and the creation of the long-awaited Palestinian State.

The problems that seek a solution are two: the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and the absence of an independent Palestinian State. The war stems from the absence of a Palestinian state. But, there is a balance of horror. The Palestinians have the upper hand at points in the field, while the technologically superior Israelis are at an operational stalemate unable to bend Palestinian resistance and isolate the militants from the civilian population.

Beyond the fatigue of both sides, Israel sees itself as having options to enforce its positions in the war. The question is whether Tel Aviv has realized the shift in the balance of power with the Palestinians. The sooner the shift in the balance of power between the two sides is understood the slower the status quo will change. And yet it is also vice versa: The slower the change in the balance of power between the two sides is understood, the faster the status quo will change.

Peace in the long term is a function of the creation of an independent Palestinian State on the basis of the Two State Solution. Then only will the two peoples, Palestinians and Israelis, will live peacefully in the region, as they deserve. The establishment of a Palestinian State would partially change the status quo. However, the delay in establishing the Palestinian State threatens to completely change the status quo in the near future.

The Passover of Palestine is near.
