The Death of American Academia: an Autopsy

American colleges and universities over the past two decades have experienced a lot of drastic cuts. The most egregious of these occurred when administrators along with professors performed a logosectomy – the removal of Reason from the body politic of academia. This has led to the moronization of students reducing them to no more than well-trained seals.

In addition, over time the following fatal steps occurred…

  • The number of full-time professors has been slashed dramatically with many colleges employing up to 90% of their faculty with part-time adjuncts.
  • The Humanities have been gutted with entire language departments permanently removed in favor of programs designed to indoctrinate students in the secular religion of smug wokeism.
  • The practice of hiring faculty is no longer based upon merit and teaching excellence, but on diversity in an attempt to counter the illusory evils of heteropatriarchy and white supremacy.
  • Admission requirements have been cut supposedly to allow the less privileged to obtain a higher education. In reality, this is being done to increase revenue by boosting enrollment numbers.
  • Grading standards at college and universities have gone under the knife with Fs treated like diseased organs and therefore removed to save the patient from failure. As a consequence colleges and universities graduate many unworthy candidates whose degrees are rather meaningless. This process which rewards mediocrity is a self-inflicted wound.
  • Suppressed by dogmatic faux liberal professors, students on college campuses no longer enjoy the palliative of free speech and the free exchange of ideas in class. This has left a gaping hole in the body politic.

Not surprisingly, a final autopsy report reveals not one cause of academia’s, demise, but rather death by a thousand cuts.

One way to deal with this would be for parents to send their children abroad to obtain their degrees from universities that still value education and uphold standards which make degrees something of value, instead of a meaningless piece of paper. If enough parents do that, the US system will simply collapse, or else return to its former calling of actually teaching something worth learning.

Wokeism is the final death knell for academia. It promotes mediocrity and punishes truth. In 1970, an Autralian professor told me that US universities were entrepreneurs. It has grown wors. Research is paid for by corporations and, of course, to keep the money flowing, the results need to match the needs. Chairs, Departments, Research Grants, Buildings and more are paid for and supported with corporate funding. Congress and newspapers are the same. We have no unbiased research or government for the people. In the energy field, we are stuck with combustion and other nineteenth century science. This surrounds us with… Read more »

Well said, Patricia. YUP….Sigh. “Wokeism” is also a line item on “their Agenda.” It is all down and dirty on paper some five generations ago. Let us call it protocol #9, or #13, or #16. It’s all there. It did not just pop up out of nowhere a few years ago. They have been planning on this for many years. They have been very patient, studying us, waiting for right timing in order to introduce skillful means and methods of implementation. Well, here it is in our face apparently out of nowhere and we are clueless to deal effectively with… Read more »

The six bullet points that are the heart of this message are excellent insights into what is happening regarding the institution of education, at large, at the college level. I would like to suggest that all of this is by design and intention and was set into motion 100 years go. To capture the institution of education, and consequently the minds of our children held very high priority in “their” Control Agenda. It was and remains all in words on paper if one knows where to look. This is, of course, discouraged. The folks in control will, at all costs,… Read more »
