Scott Ritter thinks Putin will help to end the Iran conflict. The US is about to suffer a strategic defeat. Iran demands that the US withdraws its bases from the Middle East and lifts all sanctions against Iran. Scott thinks Russia may be able to put together such a deal. Trump is desperate to find an offramp now. Even if he is not ready to withdraw troops and lift all sanctions now, he will be more desperate in a week or two. He has already lifted all sanctions on Russian oil now that none is coming from the Gulf. Europe will be forced to do the same. This will be an economic bonanza for Russia. There must be a major defeat for the United States so that it will lose its imperial hubris and begin to behave rationally. Scott’s hope is that Russia will be able to manage this end to US imperialism without a major catastrophe such as a nuclear war.
