MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Federation Council is ready to facilitate the meeting of the delegations of the North and South Korea on the sidelines of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which will be held in October in St. Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, the speaker of the council, told Sputnik Monday.
“We expect that the parliamentary delegations of the DPRK and South Korea will take part in the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union that is to be held in St. Petersburg in October. According to our information, both delegations have already expressed their intention to take part in the forum. [We] are ready to create all necessary conditions for their constructive and confidential communication on the sidelines of the Assembly. Of course, this is possible only if there would political will of the parties,”
Matvienko said, answering the question about the prospects for the Russian parliament’s participation in the settlement of the situation around Pyongyang.
