Saudi Arabia, and Iran could / should claim that they are having a resurgence in COVID and cut their oil production drastically as a result. Russia could then do the same, and it would drive oil back to $100 or more. This would drive the west’s economic recession much deeper and possibly facilitate economic crisis in the US and Europe. I think that Putin has taken everything into account and what you say in your final paragraph is likely to be the outcome. It’s not pleasant to live in Europe at the moment, but I’m willing to put up with some hardship to get rid of this cancer once and for all.

As soon as I become heartened that the US might turn away from our rabid foreign policy with Russia, I become disheartened to learn that it’s only because the US wants to focus that rabid hatred towards China instead. What will it take to rid us of the neocon/MIC/globalist foreign policy that sucks the remaining economic life and political capital from the collective west?!
