Wow. What a fantastic, thought provoking episode. Here are a few random thoughts. 1. Trump IS the consummate negotiator. He knows that he needs real leverage against BOTH parties going into this mess. Certainly, he literally has Zelensky by the balls: “agree to this deal, or, we will completely wash our hands of this mess (don’t expect even another penny).” However, he holds little leverage over Putin, short of promising a quick return to normal, dropping of sanctions, squaring the illegal theft of frozen assets, etc. It works completely to the “art of the deal” to make Putin believe that… Read more »
The only way we get peace with Trump is through a solution like the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy couldn’t show weakness, so he agreed to remove nuclear weapons from Turkey in exchange for removing Russian weapons from Cuba. But since he couldn’t reveal this to the fascist-leaning population in the West, he had to ask the Communists to keep the U.S. agreement to remove weapons from Turkey confidential, so the far-right population in the West could think they had won. seems noone is talking about the elephant in the room.. ie, that zelensky has already sold Ukraine to Balackrock; whatever trump agrees to is going to be tested by corporate interest.
Even if Trump was able to make a deal acceptable to Rus, there is no way Rus can trust any future administration not to go back on it. So Rus should, politely but firmly, work to achieve everything they want from the SMO, leaving no stone unturned, on the assumption that the West will not be or act trustworthy for the foreseeable future.
