MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has set the task to raise the effectiveness Russia’s GLONASS satellite navigation system to that of the US GPS by 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Tuesday.
“The president placed special emphasis on GLONASS. He believes it is extremely important that GPS and GLONASS should be equal in their capacity,”
Rogozin told reporters following a meeting of the Military Industrial Commission.
Rogozin stressed that the Russian system is twice less effective today compared to the GPS, but it could be possible to achieve competitive results by 2020 through the launch of new satellites.
