Prof. John Mearsheimer : No Way Out

Trump made a horrible decision to attack Iran on Feb. 28. Prof. Mearsheimer says that the source of this decision was David Barnea, the head of Mossad, who convinced Netanyahu that the attack would result in a quick and easy victory. Netanyahu and the Israel Lobby told Trump to go ahead with it. Iran did not fold, and now the US and Israel are stuck in a war of attrition in which Iran has a major strategic advantage. The situation resembles the German attack on Russia in 1941, when the Nazis thought they could win a quick victory, were stopped at Moscow and found themselves in an unsustainable war of attrition. Four years later, the Red Army was in Berlin. In the war we are currently in there is no offramp. I would go so far as to say that the murder of Ayatollah Khamenei was truly an offense against God. The US is going to be defeated and kicked out of West Asia. Trump now realizes what a disastrous mistake he has made, and the question is what he or Netanyahu will do in their desperation to avoid defeat. Trump is still threatening to destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure by this Friday if nonexistent “negotiations” with Iran are not successful. Iran has no reason to stop this war and every reason to continue it until they achieve their objectives. They will continue to pound Israel to pieces. There is nothing Israel can do about it other than to use nuclear weapons. Zionism is a death cult, and this is where it was always going.
