Prof. Jeffrey Sachs: Israel Close to Collapse

As Prof. Sachs has been saying for months, the only way out of the Iran war for the US is to forget negotiations and just pull out of West Asia. Trump has made words pointless (Pete Hegseth: “We negotiate with bombs”.) Concrete action is still possible. But what, then, happens to Israel? It faces an existential crisis that it is pathologically incapable of realizing is of its own making. Its basic premise is that Jews are hated and despised by the whole world and therefore need a country of their own where they are in control and can be safe from persecution. Most Jews living comfortable lives in the United States and Europe thought it was a crazy idea to go to some desert land on the other side of the world to dig dirt and fight Arabs. It would never have caught on, but it was backed by Rothschild and the rest of the British Empire as a means of controlling the region in the wake of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and got a lot of financing. Some Palestinian property owners did sell their property to the Zionists. If they had taken a non-hostile approach, many Jews could have emigrated to Palestine and been welcomed as helping Palestinians to develop their economy. But then came Hitler and the Holocaust. European Jews who survived lost everything. Instead of trying to go back to Europe and rebuild, or coming to the United States where they were welcome, large numbers of them bought the idea that the whole world hated Jews and became Zionists. They raised their children to believe this and so we got three or four generations of fanatics raised to believe this. They could not live in peace with their Palestinian neighbors. They could not trust anybody. They had to be “in control” of their own Jewish state. The whole world became their enemy. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. But Jews around the world are realizing what a danger Zionism is to them, committing atrocities in their name and causing “anti-Semitism” to come back, which had been thoroughly discredited after the defeat of the Nazis. The Zionist state and its suicidal ideology will soon be gone. The world will be a better place.
