The people in Greenland are the first people in the west who get to feel clearly that no one in politics cares about the people no matter where we live- we long lived with that fairytale that this is only something that applies to people in the global south- now it comes home. It took a while, but finally we have to realize that it is true for us, too.
If we begin to understand that we are many, do we still have time to turn the tide for all living beings no matter where we live?
If I lived there, the idea of being run by the US with its appalling food and its tacky consumerism would be a nightmare. The people do well being part of Denmark and I don’t imagine any of them would feel that being part of the US would be a positive move.
There’s also the US dollar as the currency. Coins are too small in purchasing power, and banknotes aren’t as colorful. I don’t know how many Greenlanders use cash or rely on it enough to care about the difference (between USD and Danish crowns, or DKK), but if I were in the shoes of one…
