There is very funny video of Merkel being ‘welcomed’ by Vice President Harris in her VP heritage Washington home. I think this was actually BEFORE the meeting with Biden, and you can see by her reaction that she, Merkel, would rather be somewhere else! It probably was at one time a very nice colonial house, however after a tacky renovation it is obviously not the so-called White House [Grey house]. Of course the Germans understand this and this is just lip service.
Why would the Polish method of auctioning blocks of volume for transit, which has effectively frozen deliveries when no takers, not be considered maintaining ‘a nation’s right to be a transit state’, if that were the way it was implemented. Does Poland have a right? If so, then why not the same for Ukraine?
This entire western concoction sounds like a major attack on capitalism and free markets to me. It’s also patently ridiculous.
Establish a RU gas futures market for delivery to border for excess capacity beyond NS2 contracts and a pipeline capacity auction system in UA and let the market straighten it all out.
Any national leader who does NOT look after their own nation first, does not deserve to be in that position, that is what an electorate in a democracy works towards, getting the people in power who they think will look after the national interest. As far as I know, even if we wanted to switch over totally to 100% renewable energy, we are not at a stage at which this would be possible. So the question Merkel faced was not a choice between fossil fuel and renewable energy, but rather a choice between cheap (close by) Russian oil, or else very expensive (and far away) US so-called “natural gas” meaning produced through the fracking process which is environmentally extremely destructive in many different ways. It’s Russian gas (not oil) versus ‘other’ gas. Oil is oil and gas is gas and ne’er do the twain after the separator meet.

Merkel had no choice. Because of her insanely stupid and crazy policy of switching off all reliable sources of energy in germany at the same time and nourishing green pipe dreams of windmills and solar panels, germany was faced with complete economic collapse. So she went begging to the russians to save her behind.
This person is the most incompetent, crazy and ignorant politician of all times.
I don’t like Merkel, but if she were as “incompetent, crazy and ignorant” as you say, how do you explain that she managed to stay in power for longer than most other heads of state? Perhaps the fact that she looks like a middle aged middle class housewife confused your judgment. She is actually better educated and more savvy and cunning than most of the men in power today. The US president comes to mind, among numerous others.
Merkel studies physics in the GDR. She spent some time in moscow to study. Only the most die-hard communist cadres were allowed to do that. Her stasi – the GDR’s ruthless secret service – files – which definitely exist – are not accessible to the public up to this day. The only thing that is known is that she was a secretary for agitation and propaganda for the FDJ – “free german youth” – in the GDR.
