I think Trump wants to weasel his way out of this predicament with a nuclear deal with Iran like the JCPOA. The more military hardware Trump sends to the region of Iran, the more it looks like a bluff to me. Listen to Ray McGovern.

Zelensky is a terrorist. He has authorised many vile terrorist acts against the people of Russia and Ukraine. He needs to be prosecuted and punished for his criminality, not rewarded by meeting with president Putin.
Zelensky had the two helicopter crewmen, who were taken by the helicopter pilot who stole a Russian helicopter and flew it to Ukraine, murdered on their arrival in Ukraine. For that crime alone he should be tried and executed, not rewarded by meeting President Putin. Z has committed many other terrorist crimes of course.
