Prof. Mearsheimer doubts whether the movement of two battle fleets to the region of Iran really means there is going to be and all-out war between USreal and Iran in the immediate future. They failed to achieve their objective of regime change last June, and they failed again this January when the riots fizzled out after Starlink was disabled, so the activities of their assets could no longer be coordinated by Mossad and MI6 operatives, probably with Russian help. The networks that did most of the damage to Iran during the 12-day war have been rolled up. Russia has beefed up their air defenses. They likely have many S400 batteries now with trained operators. If war breaks out, Iran will flatten Israel. I think Trump does not want such a war. I think all he wants is a publicity stunt like Venezuela. A real war would be a political disaster for him. Israel knows it will be flattened and is hoping somehow to get the US to attack while they stay on the sidelines. But Iran is not going to allow that. They see the reality of USreal. If there is a real attack they will retaliate against both Israel and the US with everything it’s got, which would include not only wiping out the US bases in the region, but would likely include sinking some of that vast naval armada, maybe an aircraft carrier. These reasons make it hard to believe that Trump or Netanyahu will try a major attack at this time. What will Trump do now? Will he do whatever Netanyahu and the Israel Lobby tell him to do, no matter what? Please take the poll below and stay tuned.
The screen title of the Mearsheimer interview seems rather misleading to me. What is Putin supposed to be “desperate” about? Apparently about pressure from hardliners in Russia who want him to “finish the job”. I wouldn’t call it “desperation”, just caution. He is steadily increasing the pressure, and that is all he needs to do.
