I beg to differ. The Taliban is no political party or unified army. Or organization. They are just a couple of warlords and tribal militias that were financed by the U.S. and change sides and factions whenever they see fit. That is the reason why the advance of “The Taliban” is so swift: because it is no advance at all. It ‘s just local warlords who have changed sides once again. I see the Taliban as more than “just a couple of warlords and tribal militias that were financed by the U.S. and change sides and factions whenever they see fit.” They are the Mujahadeen who drove the Soviets out of Afghanistan, and two decades later, drove the US Empire out of Afghanistan. I thoroughly appreciate not only in how Alexander expounds on pivoting developments in world affairs but in how he tells them in a gripping storyteller fashion.
The Islamic maxim that if one succeeds it is ‘Allah’s will’ does not predispose these people to negotiation.
Their tendency to cut off heads and chop off hands does not help, either.
Well, I have to agree with that, but what we highly civilized people are doing to Julian Assad, and by killing all those useless eaters in nursing homes in an ever so highly civilized manner doesn’t seem to be that much better in the final analysis.
