What I find ominous about the West’s categorical refusal to negotiate or even speak to the Russian government is that it repeats its WW2 pattern of “unconditional surrender” that ultimately became the primary motive for using the atomic bomb. Therefore, this current intransigence might drive the escalation escalator towards justifying the “limited” use of some tactical low yield nuclear weapon in Ukraïne. It appears the west simply keeps doubling down on stupid. We are now getting reports of NATO beginning some sort of operations involving 90K troops on Ukraine’s western border with the threat of becoming directly involved should Ukraine collapse. Between Ukraine, and the Middle East, the US and NATO are being bled of supplies and resources faster than they can be produced.
