Mr Mercouris, it seems appropriate to me for 15% of the US Navy to be in the Caribbean; just as it’s reasonable to the Chinese PLAN to concentrate in the South China Sea, or the Russian Navy in the Black and Baltic Seas.
Better that they should be in the Caribbean than stirring up trouble in the rest of the world.
If hostilities commence, however, they would be wise to take note of what happened to the Russian cruiser Moskva. Modern missiles have completely upset conventional beliefs about sea power.
Blockading Cuba and trying to prevent oil deliveries is another move that perhaps requires more thought. At the time of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, the US Navy was still believed (rightly or wrongly) to be supreme. Today, I would argue that both the Chinese and the Russian navies are more powerful than the US Navy. Either or both could escort oil tankers and defy the Americans.
