Russia and China are horrified by the Venezuela operation. Some in China are suggesting that now that there is no more international law, China should just emulate the US and capture the leader of Taiwan and put her on trial for treason in China. Chas says that would be a very stupid idea, but I must say that it would not be such an egregious violation of international law as what the US is doing in Venezuela. After all, Taiwan is recognized as part of China and therefore does not have recognized national sovereignty. So why not?

In the interview Mr Rubio seems to demonstrate that he simply doesn’t understand the concepts of law or legitimacy. His answers focused entirely on practicalities and pragmatism. “How” to get what they want, but no interest in “why” or “on what authority”.
