Diego Garcia is a fairly small atoll forming a rough circle with a gap to the north. In most parts it is extremely narrow, and there is just one air strip with accompanying structures. A single heavy missile could presumably take that air strip out of commission for some time.
If Iran has mastered the design and manufacture of ballistic missiles, it seems probable that it could hit the few targets on Diego Garcia.
