He just cannot afford a stalemate/ceasefire/armistice knowing that the battle will continue and he will lose momentum. And to “really” totally win a war is really ugly business, and the it will look awful to the world. I suggest a scientific approach. Find out how much politicians earn – from ALL sources in the LONG run, not just their salaries. Establish what their talents and qualifications are, and how much they achieve in concrete terms.
Perhaps explore whether they might be paid a great deal less, with very stringent measures against corruption. That would be a fine start, as people with actual ability would have a better chance of getting jobs.
