For the west, nothing is to be gained by stopping the war. The settlement is now going to be about the same regardless of how long it lasts, or what the outcome. Russia has no interest in Ukraine beyond the Dnipro, except a demilitarized zone. The only downside of the war for the west is the cost, of which is being tolerated by the publics of the western countries.
