Russian painter Konstantin Makovsky was the master of the female portrait. He painted a great number of colorful paintings of Boyar Rus of the 17th century. His beauties, dressed in colorful clothes, fascinating Russian hats, and luxurious jewelry of that distant era, are drawn with astonishing detail.
The source of this accuracy and credibility was his long-standing passion – items of Russian antiquity, which he collected all his life. According to his son, Makovsky almost every day wandered in antique shops and flea markets, in search of Russian antique.
