Western Intellectual Dishonesty and the SMO

Most western commentators misunderstand the history of Russia-western relations, for many decades now. Western analysts forget that Russia was patient with Washington’s adventurism for many years, long before 1991, and then into the 2000’s. Overt US meddling in Serbia, Chechnya, and then Syria set the table for current events. Even so, Russia hoped that Washington would eventually come to its senses and choose commerce, cooperation, and business deals over aggression. That hope on Russia’s part was forlorn, naive, and mistaken.

By 2021, the Russian leadership finally realized that Washington will never pursue any policy, treaty, or agreement related to peace in the region, and realized that Washington will always serve US supremacy and interest… even if the result is potentially war, even with a nuclear power.

In 2021, Russia presented NATO-Washington with statements, and requirements to ensure the indivisible security of the region in future. Link: https://mid.ru/ru/foreign_policy/rso/nato/1790803/?lang=en Russia stated that if US-NATO did not respect Russia’s demands for indivisible security, and maintain neutrality in the Ukraine (ie no NATO expansion in Ukraine) then Russia would enforce security by force of arms.

NATO-United States rejected the proposals in late 2021, and rejected the related Russian ultimatum suggesting that force would be used to ensure its security. Unwisely, the US stonewalled Russia then bluffed, believing that Russia would not engage in force of arms to assert security.

It is astonishing that at this time – December of 2021 – the president of the United States, CIA, and State Department began planning the bombing of Russia’s Nordstream 1 & 2 pipelines* prior to the onset of the SMO. Now the Special Military Operation is of course history.

Respected western intellectuals – such as Noam Chomsky – believe that Russia’s action in Ukraine was immoral, ie Russia’s force of arms to ensure security in light of NATO’s proposed expansion there, as well as the Russian goal of securing the Donbass, which had been under attack — by every Kiev regime — since 2014. Instead, these western intellectuals characterize Russia’s military action in Ukraine as “unprovoked aggression”.

That’s no argument, because Ukraine had been subject to a US State Dept-led coup in 2014, resulting in regime aggression versus the Donbass, when a large majority of people there did not accept the result of the coup. As such, those who consider Russia’s actions in the Ukraine to be immoral do not grasp the entire history of the region, even dating back to CIA Operation Aerodynamic and the UHVR, dating all the way back to 1949 and before! Lastly, the western intellectual obsession with the immorality of war is surprising, since war has been a typical resort of the United States. One could argue that the US-engineered bombing of the Nord Stream 1 & 2 pipelines – and with Norwegian collusion – was an act of war.

Like it or not, war has existed as long as human history, which in no sense justifies an act of war. But most remarkably. the intellectual dishonesty and hypocrisy for western intellectuals to ascribe blame to Russia for engaging in an “unprovoked war” in Ukraine, is pronounced for all to see.
