“We Want To Keep The Oil”

There was once a time when claiming a war was really about oil got you branded a conspiracy theorist. Now the US president just says it.

The Grayzone has an excellent new article out titled “US troops are staying in Syria to ‘keep the oil’ — and have already killed hundreds over it” detailing the many ways the Trump administration has openly admitted that it is keeping US troops in Syria to control the nation’s oil fields so that the Syrian government can’t use it to fund reconstruction efforts.

“We’ve secured the oil, and therefore a small number of US troops will remain in the area where they have the oil,” Trump said in a recent press conference. “And we’re going to be protecting it. And we’ll be deciding what we’re going to do with it in the future.”

“We want to keep the oil,” Trump said in a cabinet meeting a few days earlier. “Maybe we’ll have one of our big oil companies to go in and do it properly.”

“A purpose of those [US] forces, working with the SDF, is to deny access to those oil fields by ISIS and others who may benefit from revenues that could be earned,” said Defense Secretary Mark Esper. As Grayzone’s Ben Norton accurately explains, “and others” necessarily means the Syrian government; preventing Assad from accessing Syrian oil is standing US military policy.

How dare they do that? What gives them the right to annex Syria’s oilfields? How would America like it if Russia came across Canada and just annexed the Alaskan facilities? What is the point of the United Nations?

If Russia does not stop them, the US will keep stealing Syria’s oil forever.

It wont the the Russians, and it wont be oil, it will be the Americans, and it will be our water. Any Canadian leader that does not actively pursue a nuclear weapons program is a traitor to our nation…

When we took Alaska, we had in mind to someday create a Canadian Kettle and apply the ol’ pincer movement when the time ripened. Just keep appointing folks like that banderite midget to high office and everything’ll stay just hunky dory.

The point of the UN is the same as the point of the OPCW and the JIT, to create a veil of legitimacy to the hegemonic parlor games of America’s best and brightest.

Easy. They need to pay us back for the blood of American lives and the cost of the overhead in war. To protect the revenues from the oil field being used against us. If there is going to be Americans at risk then it has to be on their dime, not ours. You asked,” How would America like it if Russia came across Canada and just annexed the Alaskan facilities?”. We wouldn’t stand for it. It would be instant warfare. That there are double standards and we can’t peacefully coexist? You have the wrong species. In 3000 yrs of recorded… Read more »

TASS MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. The United States smuggles Syrian oil to other countries, the convoys are guarded by US private military companies and special operations forces, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said. “Tank trucks guarded by US military servicemen and private military companies smuggle oil from fields in eastern Syria to other countries. In the event of any attack on such a convoy, US special operations forces and combat aviation are immediately used to protect it,” Konashenkov stressed. He added that oil was extracted with the use of the equipment supplied by the leading Western corporation bypassing all… Read more »

Well, I guess if the Russians bomb those truck convoys again, the Americans won’t be taking the credit?

But you never know.

No problem with Syria taking there entire country back with American blood. If I were still a serviceman there isn’t a chance in hell I’d be in Syria to steal oil from a country that by all accounts has followed international law since the illegal coup started. American servicemen and women should refuse deployment to Syria on legal and moral grounds, make America proud it stands for actual values.

“We want to keep the oil,” Trump said in a cabinet meeting a few days earlier. “Maybe we’ll have one of our big oil companies to go in and do it properly.” (We’re not letting the Turks convoy all that oil out again. We’ll do it ourselves.)

It’s either that or someone’s whispering in our grand Poopah-of-unmatched-wisdom’s ear about resurrecting that Saudi-Syria pipe dream again.
