As usual, Mercouris provides the best-documented and deepest historical analysis anywhere, of the major contemporary geo-strategic issues.

Your glaring anit Iranian bias is over the top on this one. This report would be better suited on BBC or CNN. Have you ever heard of the Oded Yinon Plan? 7 wars in 5 years, where the US military would destroy 7 countries in the middle east for the benefit of Israel, I’m sure the Iranians have read it since they are listed as one of the 7 to be destroyed along with Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon. Trump pulls out of the treaty at the behest of Israel breaking another treaty and you end up blaming Iran. Iran is still a signatory to the… Read more »

I just listened to Alexander’s programme in its entirety and I was not left with the impression that it was at all anti-Iran. Alexander did say that Iran was “losing interest” in the JPCOA, but there was no blame attached. Indeed, with the two biggest trouble-makers in the Middle East (neither of which can be trusted to keep their international treaty commitments), constantly stirring up trouble in the form of sanctions, threats, lies, and “incidents” in the Persian Gulf, and the rest of the JPCOA members doing nothing to rein them in, why wouldn’t Iran’s interest wane? JPCOA inspections showed… Read more »

I lived in Iran while Iranians were in the process of ridding themselves of the Shah, and at that time the US was universally despised and distrusted. US citizens working in the oil industry lived in compounds and never crept out unless accompanied by armed guards. Iranians found that quite amusing. I doubt very much that their attitude towards the US has changed for the better, probably the opposite, so they are more likely to engage in friendly relations with Russia and China than with the US

Seriously, Smoking Eagle why would Iranians change their attitude towards the Americans when they persist in treating them this way? Starving them DELIBERATELY, withholding medicines sorely needed in the hope of the people uprising in protest. Such tactics do nothing but harden their resolve, as it’s easy as pie to see who is being targeted. Claims of concern for the Iranian people, then on the other hand, the above treatment really does establish how deeply concerned the Americans are. I share your view, the Iranians look upon the Americans with contempt. I’m surprised though, that they still talk to them,… Read more »

What the heck has Israel got to do with this??? They only threaten because they have a big USA bully in their playground to defend them. They are okay taking on Palestinian children.

You mean to tell us, after all this time, you are still unawares of the “Greater Israel Plan” ? That the only country left in the Middle East, strong enough to defend it’self against Israeli incursions is Iran. THAT, is the sole reason, why the bullseye remains on Iran, and Israel will leave no stone unturned until Iran complies and bends the knee to their demands. Other than that, they MIGHT try taking them on, such an action would make them a bigger criminal state than it already is, and the World won’t look upon them lightly.
